Overpriced handbag
tempts knitters with its splendor.
They create knock-offs.
I read about this Ferragamo Gancio shoulder bag in The Chicago Tribune. Their fashion editors reported Neiman Marcus was selling them for a mere $1,650. Evidently, they are all the rage!
Fashionista that I am, I immediately visited the Neiman Marcus site only to find the bags were sold out! Yes, I said,“Sold out!”
Luckily, some clever knitterati with blogs have described how to create imitation bags– dubbed the “Fake-a-gamo”! You’ll find an all knit version at L.A. is My Beat. Kate at concocted another pattern, information to create her version is available at her knitting blog.
I googled and saw other knit bloggers have already joined the Fake-a-gamo band wagon. It’s a cute bag, but I haven’t finished my shawl so I think I’ll give this knitting meme a miss!

I saw this bag in the Tribune too and immediately started trying to puzzle out the pattern. Thanks for scoping out the knock offs! Did you notice in the ad that is was described as “crocheted”…!

Yes. It says crocheted. I’ve been in stores where clerks say the knit things ar crocheted and vice-versa, but I’d have expected the manufacturer to describe it correctly!

A mere 1650? Amazing. A designers dream!
