Wow! People really suggest interesting categories for best knitting blogs!
Here are the suggested categories:
-
‘best overall’, ‘humor’, ‘technical’, ‘new’, ‘changed url’, ‘lace’, ’sock’, ‘animal: pets’, ‘animal: fiber’, ‘best podcast’ , `prolific knitter’, ‘prolific blogger’ , ‘most diverse fiber artist’, ‘best photography’, ‘best name’, ‘best comments’, ‘too much kitties and kiddies, not enough knitty’, ‘best contest’, ‘best short and sweet’, ‘charity’, ‘physical malady’ and ‘other’.
I just want to read the nominations on some of these. I know “Knitting for Boozehags” has a great name. Any other great names out there?
I will be editing for overlap, and to make sure none of the categories sound like “mean booby prizes.” I realized I should have “best machine knitting blog”. Maybe I should have “best original designs’? Or, “best free patterns”? Obviously, I’m still looking for more!
I’m thinking that loads of categories could be fun. After all, the important thing is to get people to nominate and identify fun / amusing / wonderful knitting blogs (so we can all visit them) I think I’d better go look at JenLa’s knitting blog awards to find other good categories! (I’m also thinking of coding it so people can even add categories during the nomination stage.)
I’m going to be working on the ballot for the knitting blog contest today. I’ll try to show the draft by the 27th, get some feedback and post the final ballot when I begin accepting nominations at 00:00:00 am on July 31, 2006!

I am confused about your awards ceremony. Will we all be able to vote?

Yes. The time table for nominations will be
* Nominations accepted from Monday July 31-August 14, 2006. (Chicago time.)
* Voting from August 16-30, 2006.
* Winners announced Sept. 1, 2006.
I’m making nomination forms first. People will be able to nominate.
I’ll publicize the nominations.
Then, I’ll make the ballots. I haven’t decided precisely how many will make the cut for the ballots. I think I want up to five per category. I’ll probably do that by most nominations in a category. I haven’t actually posted a rule yet.
I figure I’ll easily get 5 nominations in “best overall”, but I many only get 1 in “best stories about maladies”. If there are fewer nominated, in a category, then there will be fewer and that blog wins!
After that, we can all vote.

I am a pretty new knitting blogger, so I have almost no readership at this point. Come to think of it, I have a very small audience at my non-knitting blog, so maybe I’m just not a good blogger
Would it be horribly presumptuous to self-nominate in hopes of getting people to read me?
