- And the Winners Are….
I’ve tempted, oh so tempted, to run a summer time knitting blog awards!
Yes, I know most knitting blog awards happen during the winter when everyone is trapped inside blogging about their knitting. In the heat of summer people are on vacation, sitting on the beach, and generally not blogging. I’ve heard rumors some aren’t even knitting!
Which is precisely why I want to run a blog awards now, now, now! I want to find out which knitting blogs are favored by the summer knitting blog addicts!
So, unless I hear huge anti-award sentiment, I will succumb to temptation and run “The First Annual Addicts’ Choice Knitting Blog Awards”. My tentative schedule is:
- Nominations accepted from Monday July 31-August 14, 2006. (Chicago time.)
- Voting from August 16-30, 2006.
- Winners announced Sept. 1, 2006.
The rules? Categories? I’ll be creating them as I go along.
The current categories I’ve thought of include: ‘best’, ‘humor’, ‘technical’, ‘new’, ‘changed url’, ‘lace’, ’sock’, ‘animal: pets’, ‘animal: fiber’, ‘best podcast’ and ‘other’. You’re suggestions are welcome– please post in comments.
Tentative rules:
Blogs must be reasonably active and contain knitting content. I’ll come up with a concrete rule for this. (Likely rule: At least 1 post a week for the past 6 months.)
This will be a knitters’ choice award tallied using forms at the blog. (I’ll figure out a way to control repeat voting by single individuals. I’ll also find ways to make sure people can’t just vote for their own knit blog!)
Oh, and bear in mind, as strange as it may seem, the main purpose of this knitting blog award is not to find the best knitting blogs! It’s to publicize great knitting blogs. So, I’ll be sure to post all qualifying blogs, create a reasonably large ballot, and announce first, second and third place winners in all categories.
For now, I’m soliciting input about rules, categories etc. Are there categories you’d like to see? Do you have ideas for reasonable, fairly easy to implement rules? (If I like the idea and I can code it, I will!)
Tell me your ideas– in comments so we can create a brainstorm!

Oh, lordy, I’d like to nominate people. But I’m afraid I just enjoy SOOOOOOOO many. Let’s see…
I nominate Cabin Cove for socks and pets. And Wendy for technical and pets… and how about a category for “prolific knitters” in which case I would want to nominate Wendy and Chris (Chaos)… but then Chris for pets too, and….
Oy! My head hurts!!!!

I love “prolific knitters” as a category!
I’m pretty much planning to let people nominate as many blogs as they like. It’s just duplicate voting at the final vote stage I plan to discourage.

Oooo… I just had an idea. What about a Most Prolific Blogger and maybe something for Most Diverse Fiber Artist; i.e. one who does a wide range of stuff… like spinning, dying, knitting, crocheting and perhaps even shearing and carding as well.
Oh! And maybe something for strangest/coolest objects knitted/crocheted. Things like the knitted womb would fall into this category.
What a great idea you have here! I’m so excited!!!!

I think there should be an honorable mentions for the knitting blogs that do charity donations of knitted things or organize contribution drives, etc.
Also, is it me or a lot of bloggers discussing their medical problems, knitting ailments; wrists, fingers, elbows, bladder problems, sprained ankles, migraines, various surgeries, and much worse. Dunno how you’d do it, but a physical malady award could be funny.

1. Best photography
2. Best name
3. Best Comments
4. Too much kitties and kiddies, not enough knitty
5. Best contest
6. Best Short and Sweet

[...] First, there are the Lucia’s Addict’s Choice Knit Blog Awards. You can nominate people. No one has nominated me. I mean, come on, who does pictures of stuffed animals better than I? No one, that is. It’s a small nitche, but I work it, dammit. [...]
