For your best dressed beverages.
When I ran out of yarn for Jim’s sweater, Sonja suggested a stiff drink. I managed to buy more matching yarn, so I’ll just stick to beer for this Friday afternoon happy hour.
Of course, I wrote a pattern generator and then knit this from the directions. So, machine knitters who want to make a sock to fit their beverage, visit beverage socks. Hopefully the five people who stumbled across my site using the search string “how to make a felted wine bottle cover” will find this pattern.

Every year we volunteer at the local (dry) county fair. I weave and drop spindle. It is always in August and often very hot and dusty. No alcohol is sold, though us fair volunteers usually have a good supply of both bottled water and beer. I use handknit socks to conceal the container that holds my beverage.

Beer socks are going to be popular around here. I emailed my husband the picture, and he’s rooting for more! He likes these for the “yellow room” he just painted. (Which is my office.) He wants some in green and burgundy for the living room. And we think his brothers will want some– for similar reasons you use socks at the fair. They show off their Corvette at car shows, and like to conceal the beer.

What type of yarn would you recommend for beverage socks? Thanks, Lydia

I used 2 strands of 2/24 acrylic. That’s nice and stretchy and clings. I’m planning to try cotton, which is more absorbant. However, I’m afraid it might not be elastic enough.
Mostly, I advise using left over yarn!
