Bodacious bobbles
lined up in straight school room rows;
these won’t misbehave!
After I posted the “Fish Fingers Haiku”, one of my readers and I discusssed knitting patterns that appeared Cast On during 90s.
I mentioned I could very rarely write a haiku about any knitting pattern the 90s issues of Cast On. With her guidance, I came to realize why. The editorial policy tended toward restraint. The results is their sweater patterns tend to be what some would call understated, which sounds sort of nice, or bland and boring, which sounds not so nice.
Examining newer issues, I’d say Cast On may be trying to be a bit less restrained. Will they succeed? This sweater looks like someone said: “Bobbles are hot this year. Let’s do something wild with bobbles!”
So, we see bobbles: huge, potentially wild, bobbles corralled them into line with rigid ribs!
This inspires a second haiku:
Rigidly restrained:
big misbehaving bobbles
must never run free!

Too bad “fit” wasn’t one of the editorial criterion.

If I remember correctly, the other odd thing about this bobble master sweater, is that she is wearing it backwards. That bib in the front, under her chin, is actually a hood. Stranger and stranger.
