Cascade Yarns Quatro
Purchased at Knitche!,
Downers Grove, Illinois

My first yarn purchase of the year!

Amazing, isn’t it? I’ve been so busy using the yarn from the “Jill Collection” (Mom’s friend’s donated stash.) I haven’t bought yarn since November. But, I’ve decided to knit a sweater. I don’t have enough of any single yarn in the stash for a sweater. So, I motored on over to my LYS, and looked around.

Naturally, I spent some type browsing. Mohair? Alpaca? Novelty yarn? Hand painted? Variegated? Marl? I should have taken my camera so I could show everyone. (Why didn’t I? Sheesh!)

Eventually, my eyes strayed to the Cascade yarn bins; I saw what I wanted. Nestled amid a bunch of beautiful solid colors: one vibrant hank of aqua-teal-beige-olive yarn. (The color combination sounds horrid, doesn’t it? But, look at the picture. Yumm! )

Still, only one hank. Any other color and I would have bought enough for the whole sweater in a snap. (The price is reasonable, and these are 100 gram — 220 yard hanks. So, I won’t have to hock my wedding ring to buy the yarn for this sweater.)

But, I couldn’t just buy the yarn. I liked this color; only one hank! :(

So, I strolled up to the counter to enquire about ordering more. Cathy, the owner, who met me exactly once, yet remembers my name, opened the sample book for Cascade yarns. I then saw the ne plus ultra of colorways: The red-orange-pink-white yarn!

So, here’s what’s up: I bought the aqua-teal-olive-beige hank; I’m going to swatch it. I’ll try the yarn single stranded and doubled stranded. Then, if I like the swatch, I’ll to order the red-pink-orange-white yarn, and knit the cardigan jacket out of that. (This will give me plenty of time to write the pattern generating program, won’t it?)

While waiting for the yarn, I’ll probably work on the machine knit version. So, I’ll have a finer gauge sweater and a thicker one. Hmm… maybe I should machine knit one for my doll. Otherwise, I’ll soon be up to my ears in sweaters!
