There she is, acting so innocent. Who would suspect this cat just tortured me?
There she was, pretending to sleep on the bed as I knit. Showing no interest in the yarn or yarn scraps. Then, I heard a “thunk” and some gagging noises. She was on the floor pathetically trying to swallow a six inch string of knitting yarn dangling out of her mouth.
I was horrified and worried she would choke. I jumped up from the knitting machine, and ran for some scissors. I knew there was little I could do about the yarn she’d already swallowed, but I hoped to cut the long strand still dangling out of her mouth. She ran, leading me down the stairs, into the dining room, around to the kitchen, under chairs, tables and generally around and around.
Finally I caught her. Evidently cats can swallow as they run. After I’d held and petted her, saying “Poor Pi baby”, she went upstairs, found a sunbeam under my big knitting machine, and decided to settle down and digest.
I guess she’s alright.
So, I got back to my knitting. I had just bound off 62 stitches to create the first armhole opening. Next, I needed to knit straight for 38 rows, then cast on the 62 stitches for the back.
But, did I compose myself and double check the directions before I resumed knitting? Noooooo. I plopped down in my chair, cast on those 62 stitches, and started pushing that carriage back and forth. “Zoom, zoom, zoom” . In what seemed like 2 minutes I finished knitting the 38 rows. Then I referred back to the pattern.
Oopps!
But, I had not yet wasted enough time. Naturally, I thought “Oh, I’ll just rehang the underarm stitches and rip back to the armhole.” How idiotic. I should remember: Often, it saves time to start over completely. After wasting 15 minutes trying to rehang, I dropped the whole miserable mess on the floor and just started from scratch. I’ll unravel this bit later and save that yarn.
I was hoping my vest would be done today, but it won’t be until at least tomorrow.
