The Knitting Fiend

The generator for machine knit gloves is up and running.

I must warn you; gloves take much longer to knit than mittens. Rehanging for the fingers is a bit time consuming. But, these fit nicely– I fixed the long pinkie problem. I’m going to write up the hand knit version of the pattern and post that tomorrow.

After that, I’m going to make a pattern for the foldback mittens my niece showed me. I always thought fold back mittens were used by ice fisherman. It turns out she likes hers to fold back when she uses a cell phone.

I knit my first glove using the test generator I blogged about yesterday. I knew the fingers might come out the wrong length. I found three out of four fit fine; the pinky is much too long. I modified the pattern generator to chart shorter pinkies.

I also find the thumb is a bit wide compared to the fingers. So, I’m going to make that a bit narrower too.

Other than that, the glove is a wearable glove.

I’m going to write two versions of this generator. One with ribbed cuffs, and one with flanged cuffs. I’ll machine knit a pair with flanged cuffs– because I don’t like rehanging on the Passap. I may hand knit a pair with ribbed cuffs! I hope to show you the MK gloves by Monday. (The hand knit gloves will take a while.)

Karen Jernigan visited the site and decided to create her own version of “The Roz” poncho for her niece. She’s just finished; sent me pictures and gave me permission to show you all.

Karen substituted a worm trim for Roz’s ribbed turtleneck, added fringe from Natalie’s web site. Here’s Karen, modeling her version of the “Roz”.

Karen knit her nieces’s poncho from Red Heart Fiesta in Baby Pink on a midgage knitting machine. I think her niece will say she’s the most wonderful Aunt on the planet!
