More on Blog Money Making Schemes!
Posted on 04.12.07 by lucia @ 11:23 am

As many of you know, I’ve been fooling around with and periodically reporting on blog money making schemes.

I know most of you are uninterested in the details of the mega-money-making scheme, but based on what I have learned, I want to warn regular readers that there will be a format change: I’m planning to entirely split the haiku’s from the advertorials and make liberal use of (more) tags.

Upgrade looks ok!
Posted on 04.04.07 by lucia @ 9:57 am

I upgraded Wordpress. Dreamhost resolved my issue with “one click installation” and it worked fine.

Unfortunately, one of my plugins was causing problems with feeds by adding a blank line. Bloglines seemed to auto-correct the problem, but Feedburner didn’t. That particular plugin was supposed to help people who arrived from google find their search text. I thought that was a handy feature, but since it really messed up feeds, I turned it off once I found the problem. I’m still not sure my feed is “perfect”, but I think the majorbugs is fixed.

If feeds are fully functional, you’ll see this delightful picture of Cosmo, who, you will notice is not knitting. Mo not knitting. You should also see some links to categories “Cats” and “Blogging” and other miscellaneous stuff at the bottom of the feed.

Comments seem to be working.

The few calculators I tested seem to work.

Anyway, let me know if you see any glitches. (Meanwhile, I’ll be deleting the short “test” blog entries so people arriving at my site don’t need to read those.)

Chain Link Scarf Haiku
Posted on 03.22.07 by lucia @ 2:03 am

Knit Scarf

Let’s get medieval
and wear chain links ’round our necks:
but please, knit the links.

According to a Vanessa of Entre Nous, scarves like these are all the rage in the UK. I live in Chicago, so I really don’t know. The scarves are kind of neat though.

I wonder if Vanessa sells the pattern?

Ok… so you’re wondering: How did she find this? And is this haiku a “blog-o-mercial?” Is Lucia making progress on earning megabucks by associating odd commercial products with hand knitting?

Well, it’s not a blog-o-mercial! But the haiku comes to you as a direct result of my attempt to write a knitting haiku blog-o-mercial to promote tobacco hookahs. That’s right, tobacco hookahs!

Mind you, I don’t even approve of tobacco. And I’m not sure the hookahs are really intended for tobacco. But hey! I’d be doing this both for the mega bucks– $7.50 plus the challenge of finding an associating knitting with hookahs. Which is quite a challenge because what in the world do tobacco hookahs and knitting have in common? (Both recreational? Both habit forming?)

My first thought: Why not do a google image search on “hookah knitting”. I did, and found zero images of knitted hookahs, or knitters smoking hookahs, or even knitters knitting in a tobacco (or opium) house.

Around page five, I did find an alluring cartoon of a glamorous woman wearing feathers. She was not knitting, but I was intrigued.

I clicked and went to Lux Totus, where I read the author ooooohhing and aaaahhing over these hand knit chain link scarves. That lead me to the crafter’s blog, and eventually her Entre Nous, Etsy Store.

Then, the Haiku came to me!
